Corneal Transplantation

Penetrating and lamellar keratoplasty to restore vision in patients with corneal scarring, keratoconus, and other conditions affecting corneal clarity.

About this service

The Corneal Transplantation program at Mersin University Hospital performs keratoplasty to replace diseased or damaged corneal tissue and restore sight. Surgeons use both penetrating keratoplasty, which replaces the full thickness of the cornea, and lamellar techniques that selectively replace only the affected corneal layers to speed recovery and reduce rejection risk. The program works in close partnership with the hospital's Eye Bank, which supplies carefully evaluated and preserved donor corneal tissue. Conditions treated include keratoconus, corneal scarring from infection or injury, corneal dystrophies, and previous graft failure. Ophthalmic surgeons tailor the surgical approach to each patient's diagnosis and provide detailed postoperative follow-up to monitor graft clarity. International patients benefit from streamlined access to donor tissue and coordinated scheduling for evaluation, surgery, and aftercare.
