CT Simulator
Dedicated CT simulation for radiotherapy planning, capturing three-dimensional images in the exact treatment position to define targets and protect healthy organs.
About this service
Every course of external radiotherapy at Mersin University Hospital begins in the CT simulator, a dedicated computed tomography unit used exclusively for treatment planning. During simulation, the patient is placed in the exact position that will be used for each treatment session, and individualized immobilization devices such as thermoplastic masks or vacuum cushions are prepared to keep that position reproducible. Thin-slice, three-dimensional images are then acquired, allowing radiation oncologists to delineate the tumor target and nearby organs at risk with precision. Reference marks recorded at simulation guide accurate setup at every subsequent visit. This careful preparation step underpins the accuracy of IMRT, IGRT, and stereotactic treatments, and it typically requires only a single outpatient appointment before therapy begins.
