Tomotherapy
Helical, CT-guided radiation delivery that treats tumors in 360 degrees with intensity-modulated beams, suited to complex or irregularly shaped targets.
About this service
Tomotherapy at Mersin University Hospital combines a linear accelerator with CT imaging in a single ring-shaped gantry, delivering intensity-modulated radiation in a continuous helical pattern as the treatment couch moves through the machine. Because the beam rotates 360 degrees around the patient, the dose can be wrapped tightly around complex or irregularly shaped targets, including tumors close to critical organs and treatment volumes that extend over long regions of the body. A CT scan acquired on the machine before each session verifies the tumor's position, so every fraction is image-guided. Radiation oncologists and medical physicists select tomotherapy when its geometry offers a clear advantage over conventional techniques, giving international patients access to one of the more advanced forms of precision radiotherapy.
