Linear Accelerator (LINAC)
Precisely shaped external radiation beams generated by a linear accelerator platform, forming the technical basis for IMRT, IGRT, and stereotactic treatment techniques.
About this service
At the core of the radiotherapy program at Mersin University Hospital is the linear accelerator (LINAC), the device that generates and shapes the high-energy radiation beams used in modern external beam treatment. A multileaf collimator sculpts each beam to match the tumor's outline from multiple angles, allowing high doses to be concentrated in the target while sparing nearby organs. The platform supports intensity-modulated and image-guided techniques as well as stereotactic approaches for small, precisely defined lesions. Onboard imaging confirms patient positioning before treatment, and medical physicists perform regular calibration and quality assurance to keep dose delivery accurate. Because sessions are typically short and outpatient-based, international patients can complete a planned course of LINAC treatment on a predictable schedule.
