Interventional Radiology

Image-guided minimally invasive treatment of vascular disease, tumors, and organ conditions through embolization, ablation, targeted biopsy, and catheter-based drainage.

About this service

Many conditions that once required open surgery can now be treated through a needle puncture or a thin catheter, and the Interventional Radiology unit at Mersin University Hospital specializes in these image-guided techniques. Using real-time ultrasound, CT, and angiographic guidance, interventional radiologists perform embolization to block abnormal or bleeding vessels, thermal ablation to destroy tumors in the liver, kidney, and other organs, and precise needle biopsies that secure a diagnosis without an operation. The unit also places drainage catheters for abscesses and obstructed bile ducts or kidneys, and treats narrowed or occluded vessels with balloon angioplasty and stenting. Working alongside oncology, surgery, and gastroenterology teams, the unit offers international patients shorter recovery times, smaller incisions, and treatment options when conventional surgery carries high risk.
