Gamma Camera
Planar scintigraphy performed on gamma cameras that captures how radiopharmaceuticals distribute through organs, providing functional images across a wide range of diagnostic studies.
About this service
The gamma camera is the workhorse of nuclear medicine imaging, detecting the gamma rays emitted by radiopharmaceuticals to build functional pictures of the body's organs. At Mersin University Hospital, gamma cameras support a broad menu of planar scintigraphy studies, from bone and thyroid scans to renal, hepatobiliary, and cardiac evaluations. Because these images reveal physiology such as blood flow, metabolism, and organ function, they often detect abnormalities before structural changes appear on conventional imaging. Dynamic acquisitions can also track processes over time, such as kidney drainage or gastric emptying. Experienced technologists and nuclear medicine physicians select the appropriate tracer and imaging protocol for each indication, and reports are integrated into the patient's overall care plan for both local and international referrals.
