Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging

Nuclear Medicine

Diagnostic scintigraphy and radionuclide therapy across a full range of organ systems, using targeted radiopharmaceuticals to assess function and treat disease.

About this service

The Nuclear Medicine Department at Mersin University Hospital uses small amounts of radioactive tracers, called radiopharmaceuticals, to image how organs and tissues function rather than only how they look. This physiologic approach allows physicians to detect disease at an early, often molecular stage. The department performs a broad spectrum of diagnostic studies, including bone, thyroid, renal, and cardiac scintigraphy, alongside targeted radionuclide therapies that deliver radiation directly to diseased tissue while sparing healthy structures. Working closely with oncology, endocrinology, and surgical teams, nuclear medicine specialists interpret each study within the patient's wider clinical picture. For international patients, the department coordinates imaging and treatment schedules to streamline diagnosis and follow-up during a single visit.
